Embrace the Chaos

The unofficial theme of my last TK year has been “Embrace the Chaos.” Letting go of expectations, perfectionism, and control. Taking a deep breath, allowing the mess and disorder, and remembering that this too shall pass- and pass quickly.

I give myself a solid “C” so far. It’s hard. Projects never look the way they do on TikTok videos. Something always spills or rips. There is weeping and gnashing of teeth- frequently from me. I want to be the fun mom, but the fingerpaint smeared on my walls and the googly eyes stuck to my favorite shoes steer me solidly into not-fun territory.

But I have good news! We just finished Spring Break. We have less than 2 months left of school. It is the perfect time for a fresh start.

So this month, I invite you to join me on the challenge of Celebrating Creativity. We are going to let go of perfection and the “end goal” and find moments of joy in the process of creating. Have a dance party. Ditch the structured craft and create a maker space. Let them color the apples black and white and the bunnies purple.

If you want to get really crazy, borrow an idea from our wonderful Adventure Academy teacher, Ms. Karen, and have a pudding paint party.
